Since breaking up for the holidays I've been trying out a few basic shibori techniques on linen and silk viscose satin. I used my indigo vat to dye them and I love the way it dyes. Most dying processes seem a little magic to me, but I've not used indigo before, and it has a special quality that I'd not realised previously.

  1. Wow...this is very interesting!
I haven't done very much shibori, is there something you can recommend to give me an idea on the basic techniques you describe in this post?
    Thanks

    1. Hi Michele, I leafed through the book "Shibori: The Inventive Art of Japanese Shaped Resist Dyeing" by Yoshiko Iwamoto Wada to find some techniques to try. I'm really just starting out myself, these are just few samples. Another nice book is "Memory on Cloth:Shibori Now" by the same guy. You can get both books on Amazon.
Oh, and earlier in my blog (in April last year) there is a link to Michelle Griffiths with whom I did weekend workshop. She lives and works in Wales and would probably be able to give you more advice.
Thankyou for your comment and best wishes
